Removal of magnetite from the grinding cycle using a magnetic hydrocyclone

To increase efficiency of magnetic enrichment of magnetite quartzites, a new version of classification of mill discharge using a magnetic hydrocyclone is proposed. The aim of the investigation is to investigate the possibility of using a new device to remove the disclosed magnetite grains from the grinding cycle in order to reduce their re-grinding. The magnetic hydrocyclone is distinguished by the design of the magnetic system, which is an electromagnet with a cup-shaped magnetic circuit with minimal magnetic field scattering. The magnetic system is built into the hydrocyclone in such a way that the hydraulic mode remains the same and when the magnetic system is turned off, the magnetic hydrocyclone works as usual. The magnetic fraction is discharged through a non-magnetic discharge through a sand nozzle. The results of experiments obtained on a model of a magnetic hydrocyclone with a diameter of 50 mm with a sand nozzle with a diameter of 5 mm are shown. Maximum magnetic induction in working zone of magnetic hydrocyclone is 0.3 T. The redistribution of magnetite from the circulating load of the mill to the drain was revealed, the circulating load decreased by 2 times. The granulometric characteristic of the circulating load and the iron content in it have changed. The proportion of magnetite in the –0.04 mm class in the pre-grinding cycle decreased. The advantages of the proposed scheme are a 15.09% reduction in the share of the thin class (–0.044 mm) in the drain, a 2-fold reduction in the circulating load, simplicity of design and low power consumption. The proposed scheme is recommended for use in refineries of ferruginous quartzites and other ores with pronounced magnetic properties to improve the quality of concentrates and reduce costs.
