Identification of malfunctions of automated methane control subsystems in coal mines

The article addresses a topical task of safety of methane-hazardous coal mines. The role of automated methane control and gas protection subsystems in mine safety is analyzed and evaluated. Efficiency of the subsystems is estimated on the basis of current condition of methane sensors and communication links. It is shown how critical is to identify malfunctions of the control equipment, particularly, in case of unpredictability of hazardous gas-dynamic events. The problem is solved using the methods of pre-starting control and testing of statistical hypotheses. On the basis of bibliographical review of classic approaches to the pre-starting control, the conclusion is drawn that it is very complicated to employ the method of testing of statistical hypotheses because of extensive evidence, difficulty of selecting a dividing surface and assessing validity of decision-making. By way of illustration of the problem solving, the method of information identification and Bayes’ formula are investigated in detail. The advantages and disadvantages of the methods are formulated. On the basis of the implemented research, an attempt is made to formalize the validity of processing information of the automated methane control subsystem on the ground that the validity of information has a probabilistic– statistical interpretation and is measured by the parameter tolerance probability on the strength of the maximum allowable error and true information distortion. The digital information validity is evaluated as a ratio of error to probability of non-exceedance of its allowable value.
