Optimization of crushing and classification of breakstone at the Samarsky quarry

Aimed at approval of theoretic research on process flow improvement, the survey was carried out, which allowed forming general regularities and developing a program on optimization of breakstone crushing and classification with regard to geological features at theSamarsky quarry. The current technology of rock excavation and treatment for the breakstone production is estimated by the flakeness and elongation index not higher than 15%. The breaking design is performed as function of drill-and-blast cost for different diameters of blastholes. The rational diameter of blastholes is found. It governs the required quantity of rock mass with the minimal oversize larger than 400 mm (less than 5%) based on the parameters of the crushing and classification facility equipped with the automation systems which enhance efficiency of crushing and classification. New technical and methodical solutions are proposed. The introduction of the fourth stage of crushing allows an increase in the yield of the breakstone fraction of 8–16 mm and a decrease in the yield of the breakstone fractions of 0–4 mm, 4–8 mm and 16–22.4 mm. The research findings are applicable to design of a complete subsoil use cycle, starting from geological exploration and finishing with the finished-product output, with a view to optimizing quarrying performance depending on the yield of the end material and expenditure connected, for instance, with drilling, blasting, haulage, crushing, storage and shipment of finished products.
