The seismic load on underground roadways and coal–rock mass due to massive blasting on surface mining sites is assessed using the methods of surveying, visual observations, measurements and videoimage endoscopy. The results of visual inspection of underground roadways and roof support elements, instrumental measurements of displacements and convergence in coal–rock mass as well as videoimage endoscopy of boreholes are described. From the analysis of displacement velocities and periodic videoimage endoscopy data obtained in boreholes during intensive blasting operations, the conclusion is made on the seismic impact generated by massive blasting on the stability of roof and sidewalls of roadways, as well as prediction is given for rockbolting survival. The relationship is established between the expected displacements of dirt beds in roofs and the basic parameters of massive blasts on ground surface: the shortest distance to the observation point and the explosive charge mass in a block. Based on the studies, the recommendations are developed to keep underground roadways in safe operating condition when subjected to seismic impact of massive production blasts carried out on the site of open pit mining. The recommendations include correction of rockbolting design in roadways and management of mining with hybrid geotechnology.
