New energy concept for heading machine with planetary percussive–shearing drum head

Authors: Ushakov L. S.

The demand for the high-efficiency mining machinery with percussive–shearing drum heads is justified, and the scientific framework is presented for determining structural, kinematic, force and energy characteristics for heading machines to operate in hard rocks. Modern tunnel boring machines break rocks by cutting under force application (cutters, discs, roller cutters), which requires high crowing power to be generated. As a result, over-grinding of rocks takes place, which brings high energy inputs of heading. The structure of such machines is highly metal-intensive and low mobile; the actuation of the machines consumes much time, which is inefficient in case of short drivage. Based on the implemented theoretical and experimental research, the correlation dependences have been obtained for finding: required blow energy per tool depending on rock mass hardness, fragmented product yield per blow, specific energy input and other parameters of the force impact. Then, a new energy concept is proposed for heading machine design, and the pre-estimate of such machine efficiency (in hard rock mass) with planetary percussive–shearing head drum is performed. The heading method and structural variants of force elements of heading machines are proposed and licensed.
