Some aspects of determination of parameters for metal elements of mining and transport machines

Authors: Panfilova O. R., Velikanov V. S.

Technical progress brought new mining technologies based on fundamental achievements of the mining science, digital technologies of control over mining machinery and processes, neering. This article offers a modern approach to optimizing structures of elements of mining and transport machines without searching of numerous variants. This problem solution is possible with the optimization theory which an array of fundamental mathematical and numerical methods aimed to find the best out of many alternatives. The objective laws are obtained to determine the most suitable shape and size of cross-sections for metal elements of mining and transport machines with regard to loads taken by each element. For rods meant to work in compression or tension, the most efficient shape of the cross-section is square. For elements to work in bend, the best shape of the cross-section is rectangle with a height/width ratio equal to 2. These conclusions result from the criteria of the lowest metal consumption and the least surface area of metal structures for mining and transport machines. The proposed approach allows reducing cost of metal structures and improving performance of machines at the preserved operational reliability.
